Why Self-Care Matters

As the term suggests, self-care refers to the charm of caring for yourself. Self-care comprises of taking care of your mental health, physical health and, spiritual health. If anything is missing or lacking then it will affect your overall body. During the deadly pandemic of COVID-19, we have learned enough to prioritize things and we came to the result that nothing is superior to taking care of your health. Poor or Bad health can cause financial problems, employment crises, family problems, and much more.

It’s so important to make sure you take good care of your body, use a back brace when lifting to prevent injury. Physical, mental, and spiritual care is a must for every human being. Some people wait until they are sick or have chronic back spasms or some serious injury before they think about themselves. Eating your meal whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner at the right time is a golden rule to stay healthy and strong. People are usually too busy in their work routine that they even ignore their meals. It leads to stress, anxiety, and depression. 

In our society, people work for several hours just to make good money and give an excellent lifestyle to their family. They even miss their vacation days and work on those days too. Unfortunately, doing so, they are ignoring their self-care. On the other hand, by sparing some time for self-care they can be refreshed to normal position, become more productive especially when others are depending on you for support. So it is extremely necessary for you to stay healthy and strong for your loved ones. Following self-care does not mean that you have become selfish or you have started prioritizing yourself over your loved ones, but it is a good habit to stay healthy enough to support them. 


Below are a few signs that will alarm you and let you know you are not taking enough care of yourself.

  • · Lack of concentration on work
  • · Frequent mood swings
  • · Anger problems
  • · Become sad and depressed without any particular reason
  • · Eyes itching
  • · Feeling alone or ignored
  • · Often tired

· Extremely overwhelmed or disappointed 


Self-care does not mean that you have to work day and night on yourself to stay healthy, but here are few guidelines which you can follow:

· Drink a lot of water, minimum of 12 glasses per day

· Take enough sleep (minimum 8 hours per day)

· Exercise

· Get some sunlight

· Take a relaxing bath

· Listen to your favorite music

· Play your favorite sport

· Watch your favorite movie

· Exercise often

· Spend time with your loved ones

According to Kelsey Patel, “People are feeling lonelier and less able to unwind and slow down, which makes them feel more anxious and overwhelmed by even the simplest tasks,” Self-care is the answer to how we can become a better version of ourselves and helps overcome daily stress.
